Radio Mafisa and Aurum team up against HIV in Rustenburg
From 9 am this Saturday, 25 July, top Radio Mafisa DJs and staff from the Aurum Institute will be at Freedom Park, just outside Rustenburg, speaking to the public about HIV and offering free voluntary counselling and testing.
The campaign, called Rise and Live beyond the pain of HIV/AIDS has been on-air all week leading up to Saturday.
DJ’s Spara, Lucky Mediwane and local artists will provide live entertainment. There will also be soccer matches on the day, all in celebration of Radio Mafisa’s 13th Birthday celebration.
To mark the occasion of our 13th we at Radio Mafisa wanted to find a way to really add value to the lives of our listeners and do something more than just broadcasting. So we decided to have this event to encourage people to know their status. Because if you know your status early you can still have a long life but if you wait, it may be too late, says Virtue Fongoma, Radio Mafisa Station Manager.
The Aurum Institute, a proudly South Africa non-profit health research organisation, has over ten years of experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS. They are providing information as well as voluntary counselling and testing at a mobile testing unit at the event. The Institute has offices in all nine provinces, including Rustenburg, and employs over 450 people.
We’re encouraging everyone to participate so soon we’ll have an HIV-free generation, adds Fongoma.
The event is proudly sponsored by 3 Star Cash and Carry in Rustenburg. The Aurum Institute is providing the voluntary counselling and testing service and unit free of charge.
