Nii Nortey Hanson-Nortey


Dr Nii Nortey Hanson was a Public Health Specialist with the Ministry of Health of Ghana and a part-time lecturer in the Public Health Faculty of Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. His specialty areas include disease control, epidemiology, health systems strengthening and research. He holds an MB.ChB and MPH from the University of Ghana Medical School and School of Public Health and a Membership of Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.

He has held a senior management position in Ghana Health Service since joining the NTP in 2005. His specialty areas include TB DOTS, TB/HIV, TB infection control (TB IC) and programmatic management of drug-resistant TB (PMDT).

Dr Hanson-Nortey is an international consultant with expertise in HIV/ART care, TB/HIV, TB IC, PMDT and Nutrition Assessment Counselling and Support (NACS) for PLHIV and TB patients. He has contributed to global TB infection control as a member of the WHO TB IC Core Group and Stop TB Partnership End TB Transmission Initiative (ETTi) Core Group through the development of TB IC policies and guidelines.

He is a former Council Member of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID) and currently a Co-Chair of The Union TB Infection Control Working Group.

Dr Hanson-Nortey is a member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Ghana Public Health Association (GPHA), International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (The Union), International AIDS Society (IAS) and ISID. He has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations to his credit.
