30 years of that service was in diamonds – either in the diamond division of Anglo American or directly employed by De Beers. His last appointment, which he held for eight years, was Managing Director of the De Beers global Group.
After 40 years in private enterprise he decided on his retirement from De Beers to make himself useful in the Public Sector. He has become involved in a Government / Business partnership against crime. He is about to become Chairman of both the Africa Foundation which is involved with community work round the lodges of Conservation Corporation and of the Fund-raising Committee of the Alexandra Education Committee. He is also a Trustee of the Helen Suzman Foundation. It is a great honour and heavy responsibility now to be elected to Chair the Board of Governors of Michaelhouse.
