Aurum Governance

The Aurum Institute is governed by a Board of Directors, supported by governance committees and led by a Group Management Executive consisting of a Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) supported by a Technical Expert Group; a Group Chief Operations Officer (COO) and a Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Dr Dave Clark is the Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the CEO : Southern Africa and the Principal Investigator (PI) on a number of the Aurum Institute’s PEPFAR grants.

I come from a background of 22 years in the profession, all with PricewaterhouseCoopers and their predecessor firms, the last twelve of which I was a partner based in Johannesburg.

Bulelani Kuwane joined The Aurum Institute in 2006 and is currently the Managing Director of Health Systems Division and Principal Investigator (PI) of the Facility Health Systems Strengthening Grant.

Dr Phili is an accomplished health manager and researcher with vast experience in health programmes implementation. A medical scientist by background, Dr Phili has overseen the conception implementation of several HIV and AIDS programmes including the Antiretroviral treatment programme and the medical male circumcision programmes amongst others.

Dr Edward has been a basic sciences researcher since 2000. He has been involved in clinical trials management since 2005. Dr Edward is registered as a professional natural scientist, which allows him to have a broad focus in the biological sciences. He has a good understanding of working with various donors and delivering various projects simultaneously. Dr Edward is passionate about building clinical trials capacity in South Africa and strives to achieve efficiencies in all facets of clinical trials.

I am currently the Research Director at the Aurum Institute. My training includes a medical degree from Wits University and a MSc and PhD in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

I served articles at Deloitte and Touché and then went on secondment to Atlanta, Georgia for eight months. Upon my return to South Africa, I joined Primedia Limited as the Group Financial Accountant in order to gain Hyperion,Financial Management and consolidation experience.

Michael McMillan boasts over 32 years work experience, with the majority of those years spent in senior Human Resource strategic management. Michael has worked in large complex organisations, covering a full spectrum of Human Resource related functions.

Lauren has a rich professional career which spans across academia, as a lecturer in public health, an entrepreneur and public health management with specific emphasis on training, mentoring and quality improvement. The past 10 years of her career have been devoted to enabling professionals and their environments to ensure better health outcomes.

Helen Levin started her working career in the corporate environment. In 1999, Helen joined the Medical Research Council, in Durban, working on the HVTN and HPTN Research Trials. In 2000 Helen served as a member of the Secretariat for the XIIIth International AIDS Conference, assisting with all the planning and arrangements for the international conference.
