Rapid Access to Diagnostics to Accelerate the Response to TB (RADxAR-TB)

Bringing TB diagnosis closer to people

Too many people with TB remain undiagnosed because testing can be difficult to access, samples are challenging to collect and transport, and molecular diagnostics are often concentrated in higher-level laboratories.

RADxAR-TB is working to change this by supporting countries to introduce and implement near-point-of-care (near-POC) molecular TB diagnostics, bringing testing closer to people and strengthening the pathway from diagnosis to treatment.

Led by The Aurum Institute and funded by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), the project supports governments to build the systems, skills and evidence needed to adopt near-POC TB diagnostics.

Where we work

Where we work

These six countries receive intensive implementation support, with work shaped around national priorities and health-system needs.

From technology to implementation

From technology to implementation

RADxAR-TB supports countries to introduce near-point-of-care molecular TB diagnostics, including the PlusLife platform, while building the systems and capacity needed for decentralised testing.

The project supports:

Implementation readiness

Training, job aids, quality assurance, supply chains and facility preparedness.

National adoption

Guidelines, clinical algorithms, SOPs and policy alignment.

Health worker capacity

Training of Trainers and cascade training for the cadres who will use the technology.

Evidence and learning

Product validation, data integration and monitoring implementation and outcomes.

Linkage to care

Strengthening connections between diagnosis, drug-resistance testing, sample referral and treatment.

Community engagement

Supporting communities and civil society organisations to build awareness, demand and accountability for new diagnostic technologies.

The aim

The aim

RADxAR-TB is generating practical evidence on where near-POC diagnostics can work, how they can be integrated into existing health systems and what it takes to sustain them.

By bringing molecular testing closer to people, the project aims to help countries identify TB earlier, strengthen linkage to treatment and make diagnostic services more accessible to communities that can be missed by conventional approaches.
