A new generation of rapid TB diagnostics is set to reach 13 countries, bringing accurate testing closer to communities that have previously lacked access.
Supported by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) funded by The Global Fund and implemented on the ground by Aurum Institute, the initiative will deliver nearly three million fast, accurate TB tests across 13 countries, including South Africa. The near-point-of-care molecular tests can deliver results in under an hour and are designed for use in primary care and decentralised settings.
Prof Dave Clark, CEO of The Aurum Institute, commented on the significance of this extends beyond the technology:
“What is most powerful about this moment is not only the technology, but also the ability to reach people with TB where they are, at the very first point of care.”
He added that by supporting countries to implement these tools at scale, the initiative can achieve meaningful population-level impact.
