Dr Tonderai awarded NIHR Global Advanced Fellowship

Aurum’s Dr Tonderai Mabuto, Specialist Scientist has been awarded an NIHR Global Advanced Fellowship, recognising his work to strengthen HIV research and health systems across sub-Saharan Africa.

The fellowship will support his research into improving care after hospital discharge within HIV programmes, with a focus on developing practical solutions informed by the experiences of patients, caregivers and healthcare workers.

The fellowship is also an opportunity for him to grow as a collaborative research leader.

“I’m deeply grateful for this fellowship. It has already shaped how I think about research, leadership, and meaningful change. It has reminded me that stronger health systems begin by listening to patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers, and by designing research with them. I hope this work helps improve care after hospital discharge in HIV programmes across sub-Saharan Africa, while helping me grow into a collaborative leader who turns evidence and lived experience into practical solutions.”

He hopes the work will contribute to better continuity of care for people living with HIV, while strengthening the evidence and leadership needed to improve health systems across the region.
