ProTB is a community-based TB initiative strengthening case finding, diagnosis and treatment access across Nelson Mandela Bay and the Sarah Baartman District within the Eastern Cape, South Africa.
Our Approach

ProTB uses multiple community-based approaches to strengthen access to TB services:
Digital Chest X-Ray (DCXR)
Using digital chest X-ray technology to support earlier TB detection and improve access to screening.
Contact Tracing
Strengthening household and close-contact tracing to identify people at risk and support faster linkage to care.
Treatment Linkage
Supporting rapid treatment initiation and continuity of care for people diagnosed with TB.
Building on the foundation of Accelerate 1, ProTB combines community screening, digital chest X-rays, contact tracing and treatment support to help identify people earlier and connect them to care faster.
Since 2026, the programme has already:
- screened 10,000 people
- identified 223 TB cases
- started 95% of diagnosed patients on treatment
