IIMPAACT4HIV: transforming advanced HIV disease (AHD) care

We are excited to announce the launch of IMPAACT4HIV, a Unitaid-funded project dedicated to transforming advanced HIV disease (AHD) care. Our goal is to significantly reduce AIDS-related mortality by enhancing access to early diagnosis of AHD and opportunistic infections, timely initiation of prophylaxis and treatment, and supportive care.

IMPAACT4HIV tackles critical challenges in AHD management by enhancing access to low-cost diagnostic, preventive, and treatment tools, integrating care into non-traditional service delivery channels, decentralizing services to lower levels of care using human-centred design principles to support differentiated, person-centred care, and ensuring the participation of communities, civil societies, and entities (CCSEs). Our approach aligns with Universal Health Coverage initiatives, ensuring better accessibility, treatment adherence, and overall quality of care.

IMPAACT4HIV is implemented by a consortium of six partners: Aurum Institute (lead), Paediatric Adolescent Treatment Africa, Market Access Africa, the Centre for Integrated Health Programs, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative, and Solidarité Thérapeutique et Initiatives pour la Santé. The project’s focus countries include Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. Alongside this investment, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is leading the THRIVE AHD Project in collaboration with Afrocab and Penta in six countries, and is working in collaboration with Aurum Institute and partners in Nigeria and South Africa.
