Aurum innovation at REDCap Africa Symposium 2024

Aurum innovation at REDCap Africa Symposium 2024

Aurum’s Clinical Research Division (CRD) participated in the REDCap Africa Symposium 2024, with team members Dr Craig Innes, Adriane Kock, and Aneesa Lakhi delivering insightful presentations that highlighted Aurum’s work in digital transformation. The symposium, an annual event, brings together REDCap administrators and users from across Africa for in-depth technical discussions, case studies, and networking opportunities, and this year featured REDCap creator Professor Paul Harris alongside regional leaders and experienced users.

Dr Innes opened Day 1 with his presentation on Barriers to a Successful REDCap Use, offering an analysis of common challenges and strategies for overcoming them. “The conference brought together representatives from six African countries and 13 institutions, all exploring innovative ways to apply REDCap in healthcare,” Dr Innes shared. Inspired by REDCap’s reach—now spanning 159 countries and over 7,500 institutions—he returned with renewed motivation to expand Aurum’s REDCap initiatives and enhance efficiency across sites.

On Day 2, Adriane and Aneesa presented on Embracing Electronic Consent: A Modern Alternative to Paper-based Consent in Clinical Trials, discussing the benefits of moving to digital consent processes. They found the experience both inspiring and invaluable, especially presenting alongside REDCap’s inventor and learning from fellow attendees.

The team looks forward to applying these insights, advancing REDCap projects to streamline clinical research, and further innovation within the Clinical Research Division.
