The Unitaid-funded IMPAACT4TB project marked its global close-out at the Union World Conference on Lung Health 2025 in Copenhagen with three milestone events celebrating eight years of evidence, access, and community leadership in scaling up shorter TB preventive therapy (TPT).
Consortium Close-Out Meeting
Aurum, Unitaid, CHAI, KNCV TB Plus, TAG, Johns Hopkins University, and community partners reflected on the project’s achievements and future priorities.
Prof Gavin Churchyard reminded partners:
“We scaled up hope alongside TPT… This is not the end. New regimens and long-acting tools are coming, and there is still much to do.”
Unitaid highlighted the value of collaboration, innovation, and community engagement in driving global impact.
Evidence & Dissemination Forum
An external session showcased programme results and country-led innovations from India, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Nigeria, Uganda, Haiti (CDC) and CISMAT Sierra Leone.
Lynette Mabote (TAG) captured the moment:
“This has been a revolution seven years in the making, communities must remain at the top.”
WHO’s Dr Dennis Falzon emphasised aligning TPT with new prevention tools, including upcoming TB vaccines.
Community Connect Session
The final celebration centred on community partners, patient stories, and advocates who helped shift TPT from pilots to global practice.
Blessina Kumar (GCTA) reflected:
“Communities drove this progress. Even when funding cuts held our lives on hold.”
The session highlighted the future of TPT, including promising new long-acting injectables and the potential for one-shot prevention.
The IMPAACT4TB close-out at Union 2025 honoured a global partnership that changed the TB prevention landscape and handed the next chapter to countries, communities, and emerging innovations that will carry the movement forward.
