The Aurum Institute is pleased to present Dr Kathryn Mngadi, Aurum Principal Investigator (PI) and Tembisa CRS Leader as a co-chair for the MATRIX-003 study.

The MATRIX-003, sponsored by MATRIX, A USAID project to advance the research and development of innovative HIV Prevention products for women, assesses the acceptability and safety of two placebo Intravaginal Ring (IVR) designs. The study is also funded by USAID.

The population for the study looks at women between the ages of 18 and 45, at low risk for HIV acquisition and not pregnant, willing to use contraception. Recruitment will be until end of 2023 and each participant will be followed up for 9 weeks.

The study will be conducted at five sites, one in the USA, one in Zimbabwe and three in South Africa

The submission process for co-chair included a peer review and approval by the MATRIX team, headed by Sharon Hillier of MATRUXA.

Mngadi was selected with fellow co-chair Surina Reddy from the Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU).

They will be responsible for the protocol team for development and implementation, oversight of key metrics at each study site, review of participant safety and data integrity, drafting and finalisation of the primary manuscript.
